Monster Hunter Portable 3rd (モンスターハンターポータブル3rd) is the 3rd Generation installment in the Monster Hunter Portable series (known as Freedom internationally) for the PSP. MHP3rd was released in Japan on December 1st, 2010. In this version of Monster Hunter, the producers focused heavily on graphical details on maps and monsters, along with keeping a high quality production value throughout development. Unlike the previous games in the Portable series, MHP3rd was never localized and remains a Japanese exclusive.
Features
- Subspecies for many of the Monsters introduced in MH3 and previous Portable/Freedom installments, which can only be fought in High Rank.
- All monsters receive new icons, Subspecies now have their own icons, information pages and size registry.
- Yukumo, the game's Village, has a new Hotspring which can be upgraded by completing Hotspring Quests, utilizing the Hotspring increases Health and Stamina upon starting the next quest.
- Alongside the Hotspring, one can find a Drinks Felyne, who offers a maximum of one drink to a hunter, these provide different Drink Skills similar to Kitchen Skills from previous games, completing Drink Quests unlock new Drinks.
- The Village's Farm is more streamlined than previous ones, for example, instead of fishing the same was as it is done during quests, the fishing pier features a cage that is simply pulled out of water to obtain trapped fish, while the Mining Area contains a cave with a railway and a cart, one can send several Felynes to mine inside the cave using the players' pickaxes.
- Underwater combat was omitted, due to this, Locations which featured Underwater Zones are re-created for standard inland MH gameplay, the Flooded Forest being a prime example.
- All weapon classes available in Freedom Unite return, alongside Tri's Switch Axe, additionally, all weapon classes have been fleshed out, obtaining numerous additions to enhance gameplay.
- Equipment sets can now be registered with gems and clothes, and can be set to be equipped when doing specific quests.
- There is a temporary pouch which will store up to eight items. This pouch will be made empty when the player starts a new quest.
- Felynes can join Jhen Mohran quests, a giant monster, and also join multiplayer quests.
- Elemental Blights from MH3 return, with the exception of Dragonblight, Purple Sharpness is also omitted.
- The Guild Card now shows the Player's featured cats.
- The Transpurrter, a Melynx that can take Items from the Hunters during quests and store them back at the village, his service can only be utilized once per quest.
- Unstable Environment system was first introduced, being much different from later incarnations, certain quests are marked with an Unstable Environment icon, there is a chance that after finishing that quest, a stronger monster appears and the player is given the choice to hunt it, which increases the rewards.
